Cassiobury Junior School is proud to be a diverse community. Valuing the Views and Belief Systems of Others

• We value everybody equally and ensure children are well informed about other people’s views and cultures to promote respect for others e.g. culture exhibitions and food festivals
• We invite faith leaders and other cultural visitors to lead assemblies and talk to groups of pupils
• Our R.E. curriculum provides a broad and balanced education on a range of faiths, religions and cultures

The Rule of Law

• We have a clearly structured behaviour policy with rewards and sanctions that all stakeholders understand and follow, including. a merit and ‘good to be green’ system for individual rewards and collective rewards
• We regularly review behaviour incidents in the Inclusion Team meetings and are proactive in handling these.
• Pupils are taught and explore the value and reasons behind laws and how they govern and protect us. They understand their rights and responsibilities and the consequences when laws are broken
• Visits from local faith leaders, councillors and community police officers all help to reinforce pupils’ understanding of morality and a code for living

Democracy

• Children are involved in democratic processes e.g. voting for school councillors, class captains and dream targets
• The school council adheres to democratic processes by voting for members to hold officer roles
• We have links with Magistrates who come into school to educate the children about upholding British law and the prosecution service
• We listen to the views of parents and pupils and incorporate their ideas into school strategic development
• Children are central in the development of the school’s enrichment programme

Individual Liberty

• Pupils are empowered to make choices and take learning risks, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment
• Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights but to understand that rights come with responsibilities e.g. e-safety
• Through our extra-curricular clubs and opportunities, pupils are given the freedom to make choices

Mutual Respect

• The behaviour expectations that underpin our curriculum are based on the concept of respecting each other and the environment
• Our PSHE curriculum embodies the value of mutual respect through units which explore relationships, citizenship and issues such as stereotyping
• PE and Sports teaching actively promotes an attitude of fair play and the importance of being a good sport
